Extreme Weather

The message below is an official announcement from UIC, and highlights the importance of energy conservation during periods of extreme weather conditions:

With the forecast of dangerously low temperatures and wind chills ahead this week, SAFETY is the top priority. Please take appropriate precautions to protect yourself from the inclement weather. Commuting to and from work or school also requires additional attention to safety.

Extreme conditions also present an opportunity for us at UIC -- conservation measures go a long way in an extreme case such as this. Below are just a few opportunities to conserve on our campus:
  1. Use revolving doors, and close doors that remain open when entering and exiting buildings.
  2. Control thermostats responsibly.
  3. Close any open windows.
  4. Limit the use of space heaters.
  5. As always, turn off lights, computers, and other unnecessary equipment when not in use.
Contact your department head or the Service Desk (servdesk@uic.edu or 312-996-7511 in an emergency) immediately if building issues related to the weather arise.

We appreciate your support and look forward to working together to maintain safety and reduce consumption responsibly on campus.
