In 2011 the Office of Sustainability conducted a travel survey to assess how faculty, staff and students travel to campus. We used this data to figure out the "Mode Split", that is how many people ride different modes of transit to campus. See the table below for the results:
As you can see, 64% of the students use public transit to get to campus, while only 43% of staff and 47% of faculty do so. Or looked at another way 13% of our students drive to campus by themselves, while 33% and 44% of our faculty and staff, respectively, drive alone. Around 5% of people come to campus by bike.
The Office of Sustainability is developing programs to enhance commuting options such as ride-sharing, via iCarpool and car-sharing. We also have a information on our website about biking.
